Your Skin is the largest organ in your body! It is a protective organ. It is also an excretory organ. What goes in and around your body will somehow have an effect on your skin! THAT IS NOT ALL!! Your Skin is also what you present to the world as seen on your face. When your skin is healthy it is a source of beauty, at any age.
We need to be aware of Environmental concerns, Diet choices, and how we feel can all have an affect on our skin and how it looks.
DIET CHOICES: Foods rich in Vit C. Lower saturated fats and lower sodium intake. Simple carbs should be avoided and choosing complex carbs are all wise choices. Fresh Fruit, Fish and Healthy Grains.
We need antiaging creams and serums that contain special antiaging ingredients on the outside of our skin, but eating them or supplementing is essential as well. Vit E, Vit C and Minerals like zinc and magnesium and selenium. These all have protective properties for your skin.
EXCERCISE: Increasing your circulation by excercising flushes out toxins. Beter blood flow brings more oxygen and nutrients to the skin.
REST: It is recommended to get 7 - 8 hours of sleep a night. How you sleep matters too. Sleeping on your back, if possible, is best. Years of sleeping on your face or cheek, pressed against a pillow, can cause wrinkling from the repetitive pressure.
PROTECTION: Wearing sunscreen and avoiding sun at high times between 10 - 2 is a must. avoiding indoor tanning as well. The UV rays if overexposed can cause advanced photo-aging, sun spots and dehydration.
ALCOHOL AND CAFFEINE: Both are dehydrating to the skin. They act like diurectics causing your body to lose water. Alcohol can dilate blood vessels and leave you with a flushed look, especially rosacea sufferers.
SMOKING: Just plain bad and toxic to your body and your skin. A significant advanced skin and health aging habit. Smokers generally have more wrinkles around their lips from pursed lip action during smoking. The smoke and nicotine deprive the skin of oxygen and vital nutrients. QUIT>>>DITCH THIS HABIT!
AGE: As we age we produce less collagen and elastin both of which allow our skin to be plump and elastic. we don't get rid of dead skin cells or produce new ones as readily or rapidly as we did when we were younger. Use skin and age appropriate cleansers, exfoliate more often and moisturize more. LITTLE THINGS CAN HAVE A HUGE AFFECT ON YOUR SKIN HEALTH!!.....................................................Lori.I

"Little things can have a huge effect on your skin health."
ReplyDeleteSO true. It DOES all add up, over time. Especially smoking (which I haven't done since my early twenties) and tanning (which I haven't done since last summer).
Now that I'm 50 (Gasp!) I vow never to purposely tan again, at least on my arms and face! Nothing says "old lady" like age-spotted "granny arms and hands." Thankfully, the laser treatment you did to my arms erased a decade. Whew!
